Jane O'Hara began her art education in Greenwich, CT where she was raised. At a young age she received oil painting lessons from Claudine Hurwitz, a known artist in the area. It was then at age 11 that she fell in love with painting. O'Hara received her BFA in painting in 1978 from the School of Fine Arts, Boston University. After graduation she moved to Los Angeles for many years and enjoyed a different perspective both in the environment and art scene from her New England roots.
For over 20 years, Jane has used her realistic training from BU to paint murals, and that classical education has provided a solid foundation for her studio work and portrait commissions. During this time she met her future husband, Gedas Paskauskas, also an artist. Together they moved into the historic Fenway Studios in Boston and built a studio/home in Little Compton, RI. Early on they would share their love of art by painting landscape together, but it was in Little Compton that O'Hara focused in on her passion for the animal world. Animals found their way into her paintings, and they never left. Most of Jane's recent artwork reflects this — some animals reside in her paintings with humor, some sad or bewildered with the situation she paints them into.
Increasingly concerned with the plight of animals in today's society, O'Hara has contributed to animal causes by donating artwork for auctions. PETA, Farm Sanctuary, AAVS, and CAPS are some of the organizations she has been able to give both her vision and support. Exhibiting has also been a way to share her artwork; in LA the Lankershim Gallery, Red Dot Gallery and Vose Gallery in Boston, and the Fuller Art Museum in Brockton MA. Also her work is included in numerous private collections.
Jane and Gedas bounce back and forth between Boston and RI where they continue to live and work.
